Our cute bungalow (that we officially said goodbye to a little over two weeks ago – see dining room before/after here and living room before/after here) has a nice size kitchen for the size of the cozy home, great appliances and that beautiful stained glass window over the sink (which we think might be original to the house). But it also felt so dark and dated. The red and black granite with yellow cabinets and industrial fan are just not my style, and didn’t match the the rest of the light and bright house. See below picture for the picture of the listing before we bought the house:
Before:
We did the below updates to brighten and refresh the kitchen:
- Painted the cabinets white (what a difference a coat of paint can make!)
- Updated the countertops with calacutta quartz and squared off the peninsula
- Updated the backsplash to white subway tile
- Updated the faucet and sink to a stainkess undermount
- Repainted the floors
- Removed the fan and added a flush mount crystal chandelier ( a bargain at $100)
- First updates were painting the cabinets and removing the ceiling fan:
- Second updates were new quartz counters, subway tile backsplash, new sink (mid-construction!):
- Third updates were installing the light fixture and repainting the floors:
We went with the calacutta quartz counter tops since they are a more durable alternative to marble and lighter and brighter than granite. The subway tiles add a clean and classic finish and are also very durable. We kept the beautiful original etched glass window.
Below: In the middle of packing/moving! A little bit of Instagram vs reality: notice dog bowls consist of a plastic container and silver…eesh!
Hope you enjoyed this before and after!
