We found this stunningly beautiful New Orleans/plantation style house on a quiet tree-lined street in the Heights and closed on it about 3 weeks ago. It’s been a total whirlwind since we bought it because we’ve been out of town/traveling almost every week.

The house has amazing bones and features with 10 ft ceilings, beautiful wood moldings, reclaimed wood doors, inlaid hardwoods, 4 porches (2 screened), lots of natural light, brass/crystal door knobs etc. but it definitely needs some cosmetic work to make it my dream home. The builder/designer has other beautiful work they’ve done in the Heights, and I love all of their projects (they specialize in the New Orleans/Louisiana style). You can tell they take pride in their work and incorporate special touches throughout the home – the shutters in the front have hinges from an old Louisiana church! This home is about 2x the size of our current home (dining room tour here and living room tour here) and has a garage apt, so we will definitely be needing more furniture!

I’ve since had it repainted a neutral gray and it already looks 10x better! The below pictures are all before we made any changes, and I’m excited to do some before/afters once they are all updated.

I’ve already bought this light fixture for the dining room (middle left), this fixture for the foyer (bottom left) and these sconces for the blank wall in the entry hall. I’m debating ordering this chandelier for the powder bath but it’s currently on back order until July.

My first big project is the kitchen. We are moving the island from the center of the kitchen and making it a peninsula to open up the space and add seating. We are adding new countertops, backsplash, and light fixtures. I haven’t even started on the upstairs where the master bathroom (it’s quite interesting) will be a huge project.
