Easy Christmas Decor Ideas

This year I was lazy with the Christmas decor and I won’t even deny it! I’m still struggling with the fact that I don’t have all my furniture for the bedrooms upstairs so I find it hard to justify going all out on seasonal items.

We had a few friends over last night for Lights in the Heights, so I thought I would at least put up a few festive displays for the season (all decor/ornaments graciously lent to be by my mother 🙂 ).  I really only focused on the front door/entry, and a few decorations in the formal living and dining room. These are some super easy/inexpensive ideas for when you just don’t feel like being Martha Stewart, or if you have a few old decorations that you want to use but aren’t sure how.

See “before” of the rooms here! 🙂

Front Porch

The wreath on the door is actually 2 old wreaths my mom had that we stacked together and tied with a burlap bow. We then tied a large sparkly ornament to the middle. So easy! And now that I’m looking at the pictures, first thing I’m going to do is go outside and put it directly in the middle of the door.. oops!

Since we don’t actually have a full sized Christmas tree inside, the closest I got was adding the mini trees in the outside urns…way easier to transport (got ours at Kroger) and way easier to decorate than a full size tree! #lazy I added some beautiful sparkly decorations that glitter in the sun and unfortunately these pictures don’t do them justice. You can see the mini trees glittering all the way from the street.

Formal Living Room

Surprise! This is the first look at the semi-finished formal living room. I finally had the couch and chairs delivered and the mirrors and botanical prints hung. I’m still on the lookout for a piece of art for behind the couch. I ordered this antique gold coffee table which is supposed to be delivered in a week or so and will replace the current blue/black one. I will do a whole post on this room later (once I think it’s “finished” – although I’ve been told that a room never truly feels finished) and a whole separate post on my favorite down-free couches (you’d be surprised how hard it was to find down-free alternatives). I’ll add sources below the pictures if you’re interested where anything is from!

For Christmas decor in this room, I added some silver/turquoise ornaments to the silver pedestal between the lamps and tied big bows with hanging ornaments on the chairs. Adding bows/ornaments on the chairs is super inexpensive and adds a big bang – my favorite combo! I also added this amazing Holiday candle – the scent is my favorite for Christmas! I have it burning now as I write this 🙂

Formal Dining

Another surprise! The first look at the formal dining area. We’ve had the chandelier installed, distressed white panels hung, dining table delivered and I added some ginger jars to the middle. I’m still debating on which rug to order. I love this rug but it might be too impractical for heavy traffic area – leave me a comment if you agree/disagree!

Christmas decor for this room consists of glass ornaments added to the gold tray in between the ginger jars, and  battery powered lights and a sparkly garland around the outside of the tray.

Additional Details

I tied wire ribbon around the bar stools for an easy and pretty touch. I also added some of the wire ribbon to the the banister with a few ornaments.

In the powder room I added ornaments to the orchid bowl and a wreath on the window.

Tito is sporting his red and white Christmas bowtie! 🙂
