Foster Pup Journey – Claire’s Story

Claire’s Story

With all of my foster dogs, I always wonder: where did you come from…who would ever abandon you… the questions are always endless, and I love each pup so deeply I can’t imagine leaving or neglecting them. To me, they are each so precious.

Claire’s story is a little different than most of my foster journeys. Her former “family” contacted the rescue because they no longer wanted her. I knew nothing about the darling little puff, and couldn’t imagine why anyone would give her away. Unlike most of my foster stories which consists of taking dogs off kill lists at government run shelters, her former mom came to my house, rang my doorbell and handed her to me. It was honestly so strange. I understand there are situations (very, very few!) where someone can no longer care for a loved pet (ill, danger to a child, etc), but this wasn’t one of those times. She gave her a kiss on the head and said she was moving and could only take 3 of her dogs and Claire just didn’t make the cut. She never contacted me again to see where she went.

The moment Claire came in to our home, she fit right in! She was sweet and snuggly, and loved being cuddled. She was great with our pups, and slept quietly throughout the night. She had a big personality in her tiny little body. Strangely, she’s the only dog we’ve ever had that hated walks, so we got a doggie backpack and would put her in there so she could enjoy being outside with everyone.

Since we got her in November, we took her to Austin with us when we went to visit my husband’s family for Thanksgiving. We were talking about fostering when my husband’s cousin Sara overheard us talking about how cute and sweet Claire was. She thought Claire would be a perfect fit for her mother-in -law! The only problem was that her MIL lived in New Hampshire. Sara made a plan so that she could take Claire up to NH with her family for Christmas and introduce Claire to her MIL. If it was a good fit, Claire would stay, and if not, she could come home to Texas. My husband and I met Sara half way to Austin to drop off sweet Claire, and then they flew her with the whole family to New Hampshire. PS – how cute are Sara’s kids? They loved Claire!

When they got to New Hampshire, Sara sent me a video of her new mom meeting Claire for the first time…I have tears in my eyes just thinking about how happy she probably is right this second! Needless to say, it was love at first sight! She is now named “Daisy” and is living the good, spoiled life she always deserved.

Happy Life Daisy Girl!
