Shopping Guide to Round Top, TX Antique Show

Round Top, TX Antique show festival Guide Where to Shop The Compound, Blue Hill, Market Hill, Excess I & II, Old World Antieks Kinsey Walsh

Last Thursday was my first trip to Round Top, TX. I can’t believe it I hadn’t been before! My mom and I did a day trip since it is around ~1.5hrs from Houston. This little town hosts a 2-week antique festival twice a year where thousands of vendors from all over the world gather together and sell everything from French antiques, to one-of-a-kind art and clothing. There was so much to see, it was pretty overwhelming!

where to shop

Along the highway there are large, individual plots of land that hold different kinds of structures from tents to barns to buildings where rooms/spaces are rented to each vendor. Each vendor then sets up their showrooms side by side so you can walk seamlessly from vendor to vendor. My mom had already been countless times, so she was an expert at where to go!

  • Blue Hills – This is one of the most well-known locations, and it was probably my favorite. This stop had my favorite antiques (plus there were food trucks and good bathrooms!).
  • The Arbors – I really liked some of the art vendors here!
  • Market Hill – This venue includes antique vendors and Paul Michael and also has a restaurant.
  • The Compound – What made this venue fun was the live music and bar.
  • Excess I and II – There were lots of unique finds here from antique bath tubs to Italian chandeliers.
  • *Marburger Farm – This venue is only open for one week, so it wasn’t open when we went but comes highly recommended!

what to wear

Like most large events, people were in everything! But there were so many cute and fashionable outfits and it was fun to see what everyone was wearing. There were lots of maxi dresses, tennis shoes or boots and hats. I started the day in the cutest maxi, but it was a tad too chilly so I ended up switching to jeans. Most of the venues are outside, so you can’t count on any type or air conditioning or heating.

how to prepare before you go

Would you believe that the only thing I came home with was a candle!? It was because I definitely didn’t prepare my checklist and take my measurements before I went. Next time I will know exactly what I need for what space and how big it should be! See below for my recommendations:

  • Make a list of any items you need for your home
  • Take measurements of your spaces/take pictures on your phone
  • Bring a tape measurer
  • Pack some snacks
  • Bring cash as some dealers might have better cash offers
  • Keep blankets/something for packing in your car if you bring something home
  • Since it is mostly outside, check the weather so you are prepared

OTHER TIPS

  • Arrive Early and go during the week. The venues can get crowded especially on the weekends and in the middle of the day.
  • There are ways to ship your items so you don’t need to be able to haul everything that you buy.
  • Even though there were food vendors as many of the venues, but it was nice to have snacks/water in the car.
  • There are bars! I may have had a mimosa (or two!) and it was so fun to sip and shop.
  • You won’t be able to see everything in a day, so try to prioritize what you are wanting to spend your time looking for.
  • All of these places are free for parking/entrance except for Marburger Farm
  • Prices are all over the map! In my opinion, some pieces were over-priced and some were steals. It will just depend on the vendor/item and if it’s a true antique or one-of-a-kind item.

I feel like I need a new house just so I can fill it with all of these amazing finds 🤣 I am already planning my trip back! Have you been to Round Top before? Where did you visit?
