If you didn’t see my original Podcast post here, you can find some good Podcast (not true-crime!) recommendations there too!
I’ve been on a true crime podcast kick for the last few months, and like a good book, I just can’t put them down. I’ve learned that truth is stranger than fiction and the world is a crazy place. Seriously.
You can listen to Podcasts for free on your Podcasts app on your iPhone.
Like my other recommendation posts, I’ll only share a little sliver of each story because I don’t like to share too much! My true crime recommendations don’t necessarily mean murder or physical assault, but include deceit and fraud. I’m leaving out a few I listened to that were good, but didn’t make my top list!
The Shrink Next Door – yall, this one is crazy. It is not violent or graphic, but just a bizarre story. It’s only 7 episodes and you will listen to them scratching your head the entire time. This Podcast is also available on Spotify.
Dr. Death – This Podcast will make you question the medical system, background check your doctor, and leave you second guessing every medical procedure you’ve had. Worst of all, it’s based in Dallas, TX which is super close to home! It’s 10 episodes that will draw you in. This Podcast is also available on Spotify.
The Drop Out – This Podcast deals with the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes who was the founder of Theranos, a Silicon Valley startup, that made her the youngest known woman self-made billionaire. That is until it all came crashing down… *Side note from a personal perspective. I remember reading about Elizabeth Holmes when I was working as an analyst in New York during her rise to fame and thinking how amazing she must be, so it was especially interesting listening to this story. I also watched a documentary about Theranos, and I still recommend listening to the Podcast even if you already know the backstory. **This Podcast is not violent or graphic**
Up and Vanished – This Podcast reminded me of Serial in the fact that the host is finding out information real-time. This is a cold case investigation of the unsolved disappearance of Georgia high school teacher and former pageant queen, Tara Grinstead. This podcast takes many twists and turns, and keeps you guessing until the end. It is a longer Podcast with 22 episodes, but there is so much to cover, so many questions to answer, you won’t be able to stop listening because you too will want justice for Tara.
Crime Junkie – This Podcast is like listening to your friend telling you a new, crazy and true story every week. Each episode is (usually) a whole new true story of a crime that you may or may not have heard of. The host, Ashley Flowers, does a great job laying out all sides of a story and weaving it together in a fascinating way. Each episode is around 45min – 1hr which is a great time frame for getting ready in the morning and heading to work and home.
